Acoustic Revive Shorting Plugs

Acoustic Revive, the Japanese maker known for its meticulous approach to noise and vibration control, builds these input shorting plugs to quiet the unused RCA and XLR jacks on the back of your components. Every open input behaves like a small antenna, letting airborne RF and EMI leak into sensitive input stages while the exposed contacts slowly collect dust and oxidize. Seating a shorting plug closes that path, short-circuiting the unused input so stray high-frequency noise is shunted away before it can reach your circuitry.

Two models are offered, both for inputs only:

SIP-8F: for RCA inputs, supplied as a set of 8
BSIP-2F: for XLR inputs, supplied as a pair

Both are machined from non-magnetic, gold-plated brass and 2017 Duralumin, with the gold applied directly to the base metal so the finished plug has a completely non-magnetic structure. Beyond shielding, the solid bodies brace and mechanically damp the connector and the rear panel itself, helping tame the resonances that can color the sound. Each set also includes fo.Q vibration-control sheets, eight with the SIP-8F and two with the BSIP-2F, a damping material developed from research at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. You apply them to the back of the plugs and tune the number by ear: the right amount smooths the presentation and firms up the low end.

Please note: these are for input jacks only. Do not place them on output or record-out terminals, as doing so will mute the signal. They can have a pronounced effect on the digital output of a CD transport, but check with your transport's manufacturer before using them there.
