This is the new, improved version of the Furutech LP flattener, now approved for flat-profile / no groove-guard discs.
Every vinyl enthusiast has records in their collection, or has come across LPs they’d love to own, that are just too warped for any cartridge and arm to track. The DF-2 is a one-button solution: controlled heat flattens warped records, even those with slight irregularities that are just enough to unsettle your cartridge and cause mistracking. An LCD display keeps you informed of progress, with a tone when it’s done.
Why warps matter: on a flat record, the arm and cartridge stay parallel to the surface, so VTA (vertical tracking angle) stays the same through every rotation. On a warp’s upslope, the cartridge puts more pressure on the stylus, raising VTF (vertical tracking force) until the peak; on the way down it unloads, with too little VTF. All of this muddles tonal quality, imaging and soundstage. A flat record also tracks better, with less distortion.
IMPORTANT: do not treat these LPs in the DF-2:
- LPs weighing less than 110g
- Light LPs made in 1973–74 (oil crisis), which weigh 100g to 115g
